Collin Amelsburg

“As an artist, my work engages with complex themes of religion, identity, and the ways in which viewers interact with my pieces. Through my practice, I aim to provoke, disrupt, and challenge.

In my exploration of religion, I examine how faith can both unite and divide people, as well as interfere with personal understanding of identity. My art encourages viewers to engage with their own religious beliefs, while also exploring the ways in which religion can be used as a tool of oppression. I aim to bring an irreverence to my pieces that question and challenge traditions in religion and the art historical conventions that were inspired by these organized religions.

My work pushes boundaries of materiality and multi-media exploration and critiques the notion of a "correct" way to create and view art, approaching the viewers instead of letting the viewers approach the work themselves. By doing so, I hope to create a non-traditional viewing experience and inspire thoughtful, but potentially difficult, conversations about my artworks’ themes and material practices.”

On the wall it reads, "It's just a fucking sink." Below is a baby doll in a sink, the cabinet underneath painted with the words, "and a baby."
