Akwe McDaniels

Akwe has always been interested in how images—whether conjured or captured—can tell compelling stories. This idea of narrative lies in the background of her thoughts as she creates her artwork. Through painting (specifically portraiture), she attempts to tell a story, or at the very least to give the viewer enough context to make up a story of their own. Her process of creation can be random at times. Rather than following a theme through multiple stages of expression, Akwe tends to view her paintings as telling their own tales, separate from one another. She hopes that each painting can serve as a window into an imaginary world.
